Encrypted sync for Obsidian

A system that syncs Obsidian vaults end-to-end encrypted through our own server. Runs on Windows and Mac.

At a glance

  1. 01End-to-end encrypted: the server can't read content
  2. 02Changes wait on the server while others are offline
  3. 03Windows and macOS
  4. 04Next: iOS, Android and an open-source release

01

What it does

A small app runs on each computer and is managed from its web panel. Underneath is the Syncthing engine; mortise packages it set up correctly for Obsidian.

Status

Version 0.2, in use on our team's shared vault. iOS and Android clients and an open-source release are next.

02

Why

In a shared vault everyone writes to the same folder. What someone writes while another is offline should wait on the server; two people shouldn't need to be online at the same time.

The server can't see the vaults' contents, file names or folder structure. Notes never go to a third-party service.

03

Technology

A single Go program: it manages the engine, serves the panel, watches for changes and sits in the system tray.

The panel is a Turkish and English fork of the Syncthing interface.
